Inbound Trade Mission with Italian and Spanish Education Agencies

Inbound Trade Mission with Italian and Spanish Education Agencies

Join us in welcoming decision-makers from top
Italian and Spanish education agencies in beautiful Banff, Alberta!

Languages Canada has teamed up with the Canadian Association of Public Schools – International (CAPS-I), the Italian Association of Language Consultants and Agents (IALCA) and the Spanish Association of Promoters of Language Courses Abroad (ASEPROCE) to welcome a group of 30 Italian and Spanish education agents to Banff this December.

This Inbound Trade Mission and FAM Tour is made possible thanks to the generous support of Air Canada and their representatives in Rome and Madrid.

Languages Canada's next inbound trade mission will host 20 Thai and Vietnamese education agents in beautiful Montréal, Québec, December 1 through 4, 2024.

As Tourisme Montréal puts it, Montréal is ‘’a striking union of European charm and North American attitude, [the city] seduces visitors with a harmonious pairing of the historic and the new, from exquisite architecture to fine dining’’.

This is the perfect setting for members to show Thai and Vietnamese agents that their students are more than welcome in Canada. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to strengthen long-standing partnerships, create new and rewarding relationships, and ensure agents feel motivated to keep Canada top of mind.

Context

ELT
Globally, Italy is the 10th largest source country for ELT abroad with a total of 500,000 student weeks in 2019, (86,000 in 2021). Spain ranks 12th, with 300,000 student weeks in 2019 (64,000 in 2021). While Canada’s market share in the two countries is relatively small, there is a considerable opportunity to draw more Italian and Spanish students away from their traditional European ELT destinations, such as the UK, Ireland and Malta.

FLT
According to LC’s 2019 market report, Mapping the Global French Language Travel Segment, Italians ranked 1st and the Spanish ranked 5th among the estimated 160,000 students who studied French as a Second Language in the previous year. Again, Canada is well-positioned to tap into market share from the leading destination, France, which welcomes 77% of all FLT students, compared to Canada’s 10% global market share.

K-12
CAPS-I members welcomed record numbers of Italian and Spanish students during the 2021-2022 school year – 1,878 from Italy and 1,223 from Spain, making these the 5th and 7th largest source countries for CAPS-I members, respectively.
