Languages Canada signs agreement with the State of Paraná

Ottawa, March 21, 2017 - Languages Canada signed an agreement with the State of Parana in Curitiba, Brazil, whereby both sides declared their intent to cooperate to promote English language learning. The contracts include the commitment from both sides to collaborate on joint internationalization programs and to foster closer ties between Canadian and Brazilian students, educators, and institutions. 

The agreement will allow LC members to establish closer contacts and will promote collaboration with the seven state universities in Paraná, specifically in the areas of professional development of teachers, exchange programs, and research on language education pedagogy and policy.

“There is a real desire to grow here, and I witnessed that from Paraná’s elected leaders to its language education and international affairs professionals,” stated Gonzalo Peralta, Executive Director of Languages Canada, adding “We hope to both contribute to Paraná’s growth and learn from our collaboration”.

The parties will jointly define specific forms for collaboration and implementation of programs, projects, and activities, as well as the promote exchange among institutions, teachers, researchers, and students.
 

In attendance were Gonzalo Peralta, Executive Director of Languages Canada, Stéphane Larue, Consul General of Canada, João Carlos Gomes, Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher Education of the State of Parana, other Secretaries, and the rectors of all seven universities. Jim Clark, President of Smrt Idiomas, LC's newest member program, subsequently signed an agreement with the State of Parana whereby the seven state universities will use Smrt English curricula in their English programs.
