Description

The University Access Program (UAP) at University Canada West is accredited by Languages Canada. The program covers everything you need for higher level education in an English-speaking institution. It focuses on Academic English, ensuring that you will be able to study, complete assignments and write examinations with confidence.

The UAP also covers specific academic skills, such as essay writing, research methods, note taking, critical thinking and seminar or tutorial discussion.

What you will learn:

Structuring of paragraphs, introductions and conclusions
Writing using a variety of extended essay genres
Paraphrasing and summarizing, whilst avoiding plagiarism
Coherently synthesizing the ideas of other academics with your own
Referencing styles and rules (such as Harvard and APA)
Sourcing, scanning, and selecting materials
Critically evaluating sources
Effective note-taking from lectures, and utilizing information
Expressing yourself clearly and confidently in tutorials and seminars
Giving clear, well delivered oral presentations.

Intakes:

Fall (October), Winter (January), Spring (April), Summer (July)

Duration:

3 months (for students with IELTS 6.0 or its equivalency) – UAC 030
6 months (for students with IELTS 5.5 or its equivalency) – UAC 020, then UAC 030
9 months (for students with IELTS 5.0 or its equivalency) – UAC 010, UAC 020 and UAC 030

Prospective students without an official English language proficiency score, can get testing done at UCW free of charge.

The UCW campus is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver and is easily accessible by public transit.
