EAP is designed for International Visa students or landed immigrants who do not have a language proficiency score. The program is for credit, multilevel and assists students with their preparation for academic course work at college or university. The immersion experience of the course helps strengthen the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. The objective of the course is to provide the students with skills and strategies to improve their academic language skills. Some knowledge of the English language is required before students are accepted into the ESL/EAP program. All new students are required to take a placement test to determine their level of English.

The program consists of 23 hours per week of intensive instruction by qualified, experienced instructors.

The class size is small with an instructor/student ratio of 1:15. The program is learner-centred and focuses on student "agency", which means that the student assumes responsibility for their own learning by setting learning goals, developing learning strategies, and reflecting on their own progress.

The program uses the Canadian Languages Benchmarks (CLB) as a framework on which to structure our lessons and evaluate/assess our students' language abilities. These benchmarks range from a beginning level one to an advanced level of twelve. Benchmark seven to eight is the level of competency needed for undergraduate course work at college or university. The method used to teach this program is the communicative approach, where the teacher facilitates classroom discussion and encourages students to engage in practical as well as academic exercises to enhance their English skills.

Classroom activities will be regularly supplemented with field trips and social activities.

There are THREE annual intakes for ESL/EAP. These occur in September, January, and May. The sessions are 14 weeks in length depending on the semester.
